AUCTION: Supercharged 1969 Plymouth Road Runner

Jun 05, 2023

A customized 1969 Plymouth Road Runner is capturing a lot of attention on the popular automotive auction site BringATrailer.com. Originally from Florida, the car was purchased by its current seller in 2011 and has undergone significant modifications by Hacker’s Hot Rods & Customs of Henderson, Nevada.

Rocking a fuel-injected 7.2-liter (440 cubic-inch) V8 engine meticulously fitted with a BDS supercharger, its motor enhances its performance and gives the car an intimidating presence. The supercharged 440 is mated to the tough and tried TorqueFlite 727 3-speed automatic transmission, contributing to its spirited driving experience.

During its refurbishment, the car’s body received attention as it was placed on a rotisserie and treated to a sleek black repaint using GM-sourced paint. The bumpers were re-chromed, and replacement glass was installed. The hood is secured by an electromagnetic latch with dual linear actuators, although one actuator is reported as not working fully. The rear of the car was mini-tubbed to accommodate 18-inch Centerline wheels equipped with substantial 245/40 front and 345/35 rear Mickey Thompson ET Street tires.

Inside the cabin, the car features front and rear seats sourced from a fifth-generation Pontiac GTO, upholstered in gray leather. The interior is equipped with several modern amenities, including air conditioning, power windows, and a Kenwood touchscreen infotainment system. The dashboard is customized and houses AutoMeter gauges, including a 160-mph speedometer and a 10k-rpm tachometer, offering a blend of modern technology and classic design.

The Road Runner’s suspension setup is a combination of an independent front suspension and a live rear axle with coilovers in both the front and rear. Stopping power is provided by Wilwood power-assisted disc brakes, and an electric parking brake system is also incorporated.

The underside of the car received a spray-on bedliner treatment during its renovation.

The auction for this modified 1969 Plymouth Road Runner is currently active on BringATrailer.com, with bidding set to conclude on Monday, August 28th, at 3:16 p.m. EST. The car comes with partial service records and holds a clean Nevada title in the seller’s name.
